Nonja Gets it right for Spring 09!

with one comment

Stylist to the stars, Nonja McKenzie can now add Designer to her list of talents. Her spring 2009 collection was previewed at LA fashion week and it was absolutely fabulous! Dangly legged ladies walked the runway in McKenzie’s sophisticated 60’s inspired frocks as if they just stepped out of a Slim Aarons photograph of a high society poolside party.

Beaded tunic dresses were cut very low and some completely see-through with little peek-a boos to sexy boy shorts or bikini bottoms! A silver wrap dress takes you right back to the disco-era, yet in a totally non-tacky way. And for a pop of color, a bright orange dress was featured tying the whole collection together. Overall, I give my applause to the one and only Nonja McKenzie; her looks for spring 09 utterly shined!

Los Angeles Fashion Week: Gen Art Style

with one comment

Kickin’ off LA Fashion Week the only way we know how…With Gen Art’s ‘Fresh Faces in Fashion’ of course!

Zac Posen, Rebecca Taylor, and Jared Gold are just a few of Gen Art’s famous Alumni designers, so it is always exciting to see who will be showing at Gen Art’s events. This year marked Gen Arts 11th annual ‘Fresh Faces in Fashion’, which was hosted by the beautiful and fashion-savvy Mandy Moore. Editors, celebrities and fashion-obsessed looky-loos alike flocked to the Peterson Automotive Museum on LA’s miracle mile to catch the Spring 09 looks from up and coming designers. Models strutted the runway showing off collections by menswear designers K.Z.O and Wayne Hadley. Womenswear designers included Maxine Dillon, Laeken, Quail, Nanushka, Peonie, and Wayf.

So, who was the best in show? Well, I would have to go with K.Z.O. A follower of K.Z.O since Spring 2007 (K.Z.O’s first collection), I can assure you; the line never misses a beat! Joel K., who is the creative director and designer of K.Z.O (and a dear friend of CC’s), goes the extra mile to add in those little, unexpected details that make each garment a work of art in its own.

Trust me when I say: K.Z.O has only been getting better with age. The style of K.Z.O has matured with unreserved sophistication, yet Joel K. still brings that pop of color or other unexpected detail to “wow” you every season. For Spring 09, K.Z.O added cobalt blue to its collection, and that understated explosion of color was the perfect spark to stir up the otherwise serious collection.

If the shoe fits…

with one comment

There is something about chunky platformed shoes at the bottom of a dainty legged young lady. I don’t know what it is but I absolutely adore the look.  CC (yes, I did just refer to myself in 3rd person!) has been pairing clunky heals with wet-leggings and skinny jeans for a while now, and CC just cant get enough of it!

In this tough economy its hard to find the perfect pair without breaking the bank, but I’ve done some much needed online shopping and after searching even the deepest, darkest stores on the net, I have found oodles of show-stopping shoes to top on those sexy toes!

When stepping out in dramatic sky-high shoes, you must make sure that the outfit works, and you must get the proportions dead on.  If the proportions are off then the whole outfit ends up looking like an absolute mess.

The clothes and shoes need to flow.  Wearing super chunky platforms with a knee length skirt is just one big “NO NO”.  Instead, slide into a pair of skinny jeans. Makes sure the jeans “scrunch” just a bit at the ankles. I also suggest keeping the pants and the shoes somewhat mono-toned.  If your wearing black pants or super dark washed jeans then wear shoes in the same tinted family, like espresso, black, gunmetal grey, deep plum, etc…

Then take a top that is a lighter color and top it with a blazer or oversized cardigan that is somewhere in between the colors.  A muted color works.  Add a pop of color with a big oversized clutch or a square scarf.

Great finds accompanied by some pleasing prices!

Giddy Up!

without comments

Most children dream of having their own pony or horse; I was never one of those kids. When I was a little girl, I was much more concerned with clothing and playing with my moms shoes. Well guess what, nothing’s changed! To this day I don’t want a horse or a pony, but there is something I do want…Riding Pants.

I have always admired the equestrian look. I was wearing riding boots years and years before they became obnoxiously popular. Being on the hunt for riding pants for about 9 months, I am now able to call myself an expert! Lucky for you they are on the verge of being found everywhere. Correction: they are everywhere! Rag & Bone, Derek Lam, Ralph Lauren, 3.1 by Phillip Lim, and JET Tees are just a few of the designers that feature the horse riding pants in their latest collections.

The equestrian pant (also referred to as the Jodhpur pant) is sexy and chic but always flaunts utter sophistication. It wont be long until you see them sold at the mass-produced chain stores around the country. Another correction: I already spotted the equestrian legging at the local Forever 21!

So maybe I want absolutely nothing to do with the equestrian sport, but as for the clothes, bring em’ on!
